How to Stay Positive and Motivated – A Jordan Belfort Interview Excerpt

Read time: 90 sec

Are you struggling to keep your spirits up? Sometimes, or even every day, you might think about what you want to do in life. How do you keep with the pace of everyday life? How to remain optimistic at work? How to get back to where you were at one point in the past.

I went over a video interview of Jordan Belfort on YouTube. He is considered one of the best sales experts across the globe. The Wolf of Wall Street – an American epic biographical movie was based on his memoir.

Jordan describes his 3-step process to get things back on track and progress in life.

Step 1. Your ‘Why’ is never about you

If it is only about yourself, you only go so far.

But if it is about your loved ones, you will go through a wall of fire.

I can correlate this step with Special Forces. There too, operators work as a buddy pair, where each operator is ready to sacrifice their lives protecting their buddy.

Takeaway: Your vision should inspire you to jump out of bed every day.

Step 2: You must have a strategy

Some people have a grand vision, but they have low standards – they are not willing to do the work.

That is what we call having “a champagne vision and a beer standard”.

Then some people have high standards, but they lack a vision for the future. They do not have a vision that inspires them.

So they have champagne standards but a beer vision.

It is about having a match between your standards and vision.

So what should your standards be?

It does not matter. It should be congruent with your vision. There is no right or wrong answer about how much, or what.

Takeaway: You must have that vision for the future and the strategies required to make that vision a reality.

Step 3: You have to be able to share that vision with others

Communicate your vision to people in a way that moves them to take action, get them going.

People should help you achieve your dream.

Takeaway: Conveying people is a skill to master. Let your dreams be lived and achieved with like-minded people.

Final Verdict:

Do not live in denial, do not stay put.

Let your fear plough you forward.

Pain is the greatest motivating force.
